The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) of 1995 was an initiative implemented to help end the discrimination many disabled people face in their daily lives.

For the construction industries this meant a legal obligation to comply with the DDA act in both new build work and renovations. If a physical feature of a building makes it impossible or unreasonably difficult for a disabled person to use the premises then the service provider is legally bound to alter or remove it. RCL has a full working knowledge of the DDA act and the legislation that accompanies it and can show a wealth of experience of completed works that comply with it.

Our DDA adaptations include major works in public premises and many historic or listed buildings. Often this work has been completed with the buildings remaining occupied to remain considerate to the needs and business requirements of the client.

Our completed DDA driven works include the following:

  • Disabled WC Installations
  • Braille Signage
  • Ramped Access for Schools and Churches
  • Hearing Induction Loop Systems
  • Door widening and Internal Alterations
  • Disabled Facilities Grant Works for Local Authorities
  • Disabled Counters
  • Stair Lifts
  • Replacement of Internal Handrails

The RCL team are more than happy to discuss and advise on any renovation for DDA work. Please feel free to give us a call for more information.
